Prep forward commits to Southern Miss

West Marion sophomore forward Christian Robbins has verbally committed to play basketball for Southern Miss coach Larry Eustachy, his coach Mark Stringer said Monday.
Robbins, who stands 6-foot-9, has attended camps under Eustachy since he was in the seventh grade.
"The coaches really like him and they didn't want to let a 7-footer get out of their backyard," Stringer said. "He's a great kid with a good work ethic. All of his grades are in order. He makes straight A's."
Stringer said that Robbins played as a substitute under him last season at the height of 6-foot-5, but the coach plans to start Robbins this season at forward.
"He's kind of limited on his dribbling," Stringer said. "We've been working on that. He's caught up in a clumsy stage."
Stringer said that the lanky Robbins already features a strong outside shot as a sophomore and they are trying to bulk him up to fill out his frame.
